Privacy Policy — SERSO Mail

This policy applies to the SERSO Mail Android application, published by SERSO Engineering.

Effective date: 2026-05-06  ·  Last updated: 2026-05-06

Overview

SERSO Mail is an Android email client that provides IMAP and SMTP access to email accounts using standard internet mail protocols. It is developed and published by SERSO Engineering, Toronto, Canada.

This policy describes what data SERSO Mail collects, how it is used, and your rights with respect to that data.

Data We Do Not Collect

SERSO Mail does not collect, transmit, or store any personal data on SERSO Engineering servers. Specifically:

  • No analytics or usage data is collected
  • No advertising identifiers are used or transmitted
  • No crash reports are sent to SERSO Engineering or any third party
  • No contact lists, message content, or metadata leave your device except as required by normal IMAP/SMTP mail delivery to your chosen mail server
  • SERSO Engineering operates no backend service that receives data from the app

Data Stored on Your Device

SERSO Mail stores the following data locally on your Android device only:

  • Your email account credentials (address and password), stored in the Android secure credential store
  • Mail server configuration — IMAP and SMTP hostnames, ports, and security settings
  • A local cache of email messages and folder structure, stored in the app's private storage
  • App settings and preferences

This data is accessible only to SERSO Mail on your device. It is not transmitted to any SERSO Engineering server. Standard Android device backup policies apply if you use Google or manufacturer backup services.

Mail Server Communication

When you use SERSO Mail, it communicates directly with the mail server you configure. This communication is encrypted using TLS. SERSO Engineering does not operate a proxy, relay, or intermediary between the app and your mail server — your email traffic goes directly from your device to your mail provider. The privacy practices of your mail provider apply to that communication.

Third-Party Code

SERSO Mail is based on Thunderbird for Android, an open-source email client licensed under the Apache License 2.0, maintained by MZLA Technologies Corporation. SERSO Engineering's modifications are limited to branding, configuration, and account setup. No additional data collection has been introduced. No third-party advertising SDKs, analytics frameworks, or tracking libraries are included.

Permissions

SERSO Mail requests only the Android permissions necessary to function as an email client:

  • Internet access — to connect to mail servers
  • Receive boot completed — to restore background sync after device restart
  • Foreground service — to maintain mail sync while the app is active
  • Notifications — to alert you to new messages

No permissions are requested to access your contacts, camera, microphone, location, or files beyond the app's own private storage.

Children's Privacy

SERSO Mail is not directed at children under the age of 13 and is not designed for use by minors. We do not knowingly collect any information from children.

Changes to This Policy

If this policy changes materially, the updated version will be published at this URL with a revised effective date. For significant changes, the app's Play Store listing will be updated accordingly.
